The Landscapes of Bede
Saturday 25 Oct 08
Bede's World

Professor Brian Roberts, Durham University, has conducted original research into the Wearmouth-Jarrow monastic estate.  His innovative approach, using historical geography, has enabled him to propose a model for how the original monastic estate functioned.  The 7th-century monastery owned a vast area of land, extending far beyond the modern-day churchyard boundaries surrounding St Peter's and St Paul's churches.  Brian Robert's approach sheds light on the nature of the early monastic estate.

Talk is at 12 noon as part of the Bede's World Saturday Talks series, organised by Bede's World and the Friends of Bede's World.  Museum admission charges apply.  Entry is free to members of the Friends of Bede's World (who also enjoy unlimited free admission to the museum during opening times).
