David Dimbleby, a well respected and renowned presenter of current affairs programmes and documentaries, has become the latest public figure to back the Wearmouth-Jarrow Nomination for World Heritage Site status.
Mr Dimbleby was visiting St Paul's Church and Bede's World in Jarrow to film a new landmark art series which will hit our screens in 2009. While there he followed in the footsteps of the Duke of Gloucester and took the opportunity to pledge his support for the World Heritage Site bid by signing 'The Book of Life'. The book is a new 'manuscript' which is being used to record public support.
David Dimbleby said: "This twin monastery should be recognised as a World Heritage Site in honour of a man whose renown is celebrated world wide and whose contribution to our knowledge of the past has enriched our generation and will be cherished by generations to come."
