Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens combines a museum, art gallery, exhibition space and Winter Gardens to create a stunning visitor attraction in the heart of Sunderland.
In the Museum, discover the history of the city from its prehistoric past to the present day. Exciting displays interpret the wide variety of collections, using hands-on exhibits, interactive displays and video presentations.
Archaeological material from the excavations at St Peters, Wearmouth are also displayed. They include finds that provide information about the appearance of the original buildings such as the very rare window glass, roof tiles, painted plaster and stone sculpture, and others that reveal more about the life of the people who used the buildings, including coins, glass inlay decoration and dress fittings.
The stunning Winter Gardens stimulate the senses with over 2,000 flowers and plants brought together in a spectacular showcase of the world's natural beauty.
The museum holds an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions which are accompanied by activities and events for all ages.
Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens is managed by Tyne & Wear Museums on behalf of Sunderland City Council.
Open Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 2pm - 5pm.
